Bin To Win For Reilly
Kelvin Reilly left Donington Park top of the KTM RC8 SuperCup standings after a
weekend of mixed fortunes at the Derbyshire circuit. Reilly was able to put a
first race crash behind him to take victory in race two.
Reilly's weekend began well, as he set the fastest time in Saturday's solitary
free practice session.
Sunday morning's qualifying session saw Reilly set the early pace, with a
blistering lap of one minute 38.164s. Unfortunately his time was beaten late on
by only two hundredths of a second, demoting Reilly to second place on the grid.
Reilly made an impressive start to the first race taking the lead on the opening
lap. The lead was short lived however, as Reilly crashed out on lap two. Leading
the field around the Melbourne hairpin, Reilly paid the penalty for being a
little too eager on the throttle. As he exited the right hander his rear tyre
spun up and threw him off. Although Reilly was unhurt, the right hand side
handle bar and foot peg had been broken off, preventing him from re-mounting.
After scoring no points in race one, Reilly made a more cautious start to the
second race. He slotted into third position on the opening lap, behind defending
Champion, Dave Wood, and British SuperMoto Champion, Christian Iddon. As the
front three began to break away from the rest of the field, Reilly made his move
past Iddon into second. By lap five, Reilly had taken the lead, where he stayed
until the race was called to a premature end. On lap nine, the race was red
flagged due to a crash, and having lead across the line, Reilly was handed the
win.
Reilly now takes a 31 point lead in the championship to the next round at
Thruxton next weekend.

"Once I got out in front, I felt I could go faster but after what happened in the first
race, I just wanted to make sure of the points."
