Round 3 - Oulton Park

Strong Weekend For Quigley

Luke Quigley claimed a strong ninth place finish at round 3 of his British Superstock Championship campaign at Oulton Park.

Having struggled with rear grip problems at the opening two rounds of the series, Quigley received some updated suspension components from Ohlins to try and rectify the issues.

Quigley seemed much happier with the handling of his Formwise/Astro Suzuki during qualifying but he was losing out power, particularly to the BMW S1000RRs which made up three-quarters of the front row. Quigley's best lap of one minute 39.870 seconds was good enough to place him 12th on the grid.

Another superb start lifted Quigley up to sixth place on the opening lap. After being passed by reigning British Supersport Champion Steve Plater, Quigley lost a further place on lap 2 as Sam Warren came past on the brakes. Quigley and Warren then continued to scrap for the position over the course of the next couple of laps, with each taking it in turns to pass the other. This tussle allowed the front group of seven riders to break clear, which in turn meant Quigley had lost the tow down the long back straights. Now back in the chasing pack, Quigley came under pressure from several other riders. After holding off many attacks, Quigley was unable to gain any further places and took the chequered flag in a commendable ninth place.

After the race Quigley remarked: "I am pleased with how the weekend went. We have definitely made improvements to the chassis and things are going the right way."

I got away well in the race, but then got caught up in a battle with Sam Warren who was getting better drive onto the long straights than I was. Once we started out-braking each other we let the lead group slip away and once you lose touch around a track like this, it is very difficult to reel them back in."

Quigley is ninth in the overall standings ahead of Round 4 at Cadwell Park in three weeks time.
