Matt Layt found the going tough at round 6 of the British Superstock
Championship held at, his home circuit, Snetterton. The Formwise Close Print
Finance BMW rider battled his way around the new Snetterton 300 configuration,
to finish in 21st.
The Norfolk rider was keen to impress in his own back yard and the weekend got
off to a promising start. Layt ended free practice 15th fastest of the 41-strong
field.
In qualifying, things began to get tougher as all the riders started to get to
grips with the new track. Layt was unable to sufficiently improve his practice
times and found himself slipping down the order.
He completed the two qualifiers in 21st and 26th respectively, leaving
him 26th on combined time.
Layt made a steady start to Sunday's race: he completed the opening lap in 26th.
Over the course of the 14-lap race, Layt set about climbing up the order. Having
made good progress in morning warm-up, he was able to lap faster than those
riders he was battling and made 6 successful overtaking manoeuvres. Layt started
the final lap in 20th but he was unable to maintain the pace, dropping back a
place to take the chequered flag in 21st.
After the race, Layt said: "That was the hardest I have had to ride just to
finish 21st. I had given myself too much to do by qualifying that far down."
"We started the weekend up in 15th and I was hopeful that we could continue that
sort of pace. Unfortunately, I just couldn't find enough improvement over the
course of qualifying. We made some changes for warm-up on Sunday and I went over
half a second quicker, on old tyres."
"The race was tough but I managed to make some decent progress. If I had
qualified a row or two further forward, which I could have done with my warm-up
times, then I think we could have scored a much better result."
"It's back to Oulton Park next and we have been there already this season, so we
should have a good starting point on the Formwise Close Print Finance BMW. It
would be good if we could go there and challenge for some championship points." |
